Chron.com | U.S. AIR RAID KILLS AL-QAIDA'S LEADER IN IRAQ

Chron.com | U.S. AIR RAID KILLS AL-QAIDA'S LEADER IN IRAQ

This is tremendously great news. A really nice way to wake up. I popped the tv on and it was the first thing I saw. Very good. This man was responsible for thousands of deaths in Iraq.
The Jordanian-born terrorist was Iraq's most-wanted militant as notorious as Osama bin Laden, to whom he swore allegiance in 2004. The United States put a $25 million bounty on his head, the same as bin Laden. Al-Maliki told al-Arabiya television the bounty would be honored, saying "we will meet our promise," without elaborating.

Al-Zarqawi is believed to have beheaded two Americans — Nicholas Berg of West Chester, Pa., and Eugene Armstrong, formerly of Hillsdale, Mich. prompting supporters to dub him "the slaughtering sheik."
We have to brace ourselves for a number of attacks now. Al-Zarqawi becomes a martyr now. And I am afraid there will be plenty of repercussions after this. But, we are lucky to get him. And I applaud the efforts of our forces. Great job.

(now if we could just get that 6 foot 6, long-bearded guy... hmm, what's his name?)

Aidan: First Day at the Pool

Aidan at the pool June 7, 2006 on Vimeo

It was our first day at the pool for the summer. Aidan had a really, really good time. He was exhausted when we got home and is a sleep like a rock right now. Last year he couldn't do much in the pool except for float around. One year later he was running like crazy through the kiddie pool. He was the biggest little guy in there.

We'll probably go back again tomorrow or the next day. He had a great time. Loved seeing all the babies and the parents. He is such a little flirt, too. Hope you enjoyed the video above as well. I sliced together a couple of video clips from my digital camera (it only takes 15 second high res clips).

Check out my sidebar ---> on the right for more video as well.

Must Read Blog: The Insanity of Zahaqiel

Homosexuality and the Bible Great post by Zahaqiel. Must read. Here is a touch of it...
Dear Mr. President, 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

....
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?
Zahaqiel reposted this. It's pretty good stuff. The entire thing cracked me up.

Politics: Stewart Rips Gay Basher Bennett on Daily Show

My TiVo hasn't been recording The Daily Show and The Colbert Report this week because they switched times on me. I usually record them at 8:30 and 9:00 am. But, I looked today and now they are showing them at 7 and 7:30. Last night Jon had Bill Bennett on The Daily Show. Bennett is a conservative gay basher that is against gay marriage. I had missed Jon Stewart at his best last night, but I caught it on the web:
J. Stewart: So why not encourage gay people to join in in that family arrangement if that is what provides stability to a society?

B. Bennett: Well I think if gay..gay people are already members of families...

J. Stewart: What? (almost spitting out his drink)

B. Bennett: They're sons and they're daughters..

J. Stewart: So that's where the buck stops, that's the gay ceiling.

B. Bennett: Look, it's a debate about whether you think marriage is between a man and a women.

J. Stewart: I disagree, I think it's a debate about whether you think gay people are part of the human condition or just a random fetish.
Check the video out for yourself:

I love how Jon went off on his "slippery slope" argument. You know, the one where conservatives claim that if you don't stop gay marraige then where will this madness end? Polygamy run wild! Stop gay marriage because you don't want people marrying 3 or 4 people, or marrying sheep! C'mon. We live in the real world.

John had some great quotes:
"Isn't ever gay person someone's son or daughter?" Great question!

"Divorce is not caused because 50% of all marriages end in gayness." Great point!

Politics & TV: Colbert Commencement

Colbert Tells College Graduates: Get Your Own TV Show

At tiny Knox College in Illinois, Stephen Colbert, from The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, gave the 2006 commencement address this weekend. Amazing. He introduced himself this way:
"My name is Stephen Colbert, but I actually play someone on television named Stephen Colbert, who looks like me, and talks like me, but who says things with a straight face he doesn’t mean."
Funny. I guess he went in and out of his "Colbert-persona" to explain to the graduates that:
"Remember, you cannot be both young and wise. Young people who pretend to be wise to the ways of the world are mostly cynics. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blinder, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us.

"Cynics always say no. But saying yes begins things. Saying yes is how things grow. Saying yes leads to knowledge. Yes is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say yes.

"And that’s The Word."
He was recently named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world. What an amazing climb he's had since faux-reporter on The Daily Show.

He's the man!

Aidan: Football Toybox Fun

[of course you can click on the pictures to make them larger]

Norma surfed out on Kingwoodyardsales.com and found a $5 toy box for Aidan in the shape of a football. It's beat up a little, but it will do the job. He loves it because he can climb in and out of it. He is a climbing machine right now.

We have to keep our eyes on him at all times now. The little guy is a terror. A fun terror though. Tonight he was turning his little tykes police car on it's side and crawling up on the side door and standing. It was as acrobatic as a 19 month-old could be. To make matters worse he began jumping off the car and onto me as I layed on the couch. That really made him laugh. Then he would climb back up and do it all over again. After 10 times or so, he turned the tables on us and jumped on Norma instead. Then out of the blue he decided to jump on to the floor. Why? Who knows what he was thinking, but neither one of us could catch him in time. Biffed his nose off the carpet pretty good. But, he didn't cry.

Crazy boy.

Politics: The Bush Gay Bashing Begins Monday

Gay Bashing to Begin Monday at White House

Just in time for the Congressional Elections! It's "we are morally superior and should continue to govern" campaign. Heading straight for the front pages and the 24/7 News Channels near you!

What a joke.
President Bush will promote a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage on Monday, the eve of a scheduled Senate vote on the cause that is dear to his conservative backers.

The amendment would prohibit states from recognizing same-sex marriages. To become law, the proposal would need two-thirds support in the Senate and House, and then be ratified by at least 38 state legislatures.

It stands little chance of passing the 100-member Senate, where proponents are struggling to get even 50 votes. Several Republicans oppose the measure, and so far only one Democrat — Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska — says he will vote for it.
So, this has no chance of passing this year. So why bring it up? It is for votes. Disgusting. Why don't they get things done that they have already proposed first!

Or is it because of the new Lesbian Batwoman? Maybe that bothered Bush a lot. Comics seem to be about his reading level. Maybe it made an impact on him and he wants to be sure he can keep Batwoman from marrying the woman of her dreams!

My Life: Running

Ran another 2 miles tonight. Felt really, really good. I just have to keep it up. This is not something I want to do until a certain date in time. I have to do it 3-4 times a week. My knee is holding up pretty well. I am a bit surprised. But, it comes and goes. I haven't run on back-to-back days yet. So it has had plenty of time to rest up.

Next week I am going to start running in the heat of the day during Aidan's nap. This week has been really cool because of all of the rain. That'll get me going. A good 95 degree day with high humidity. One or two miles will do me in good.

It is my hope to start running again in 5K and 10K races next winter/spring here in Houston. That really keeps me going because I have a goal to reach and I don't want to be embarrased out there. Plus, it is fun and a good way to get a t'shirt. :)

Norma is going to start running, too. Shame of it is that we can't really do it together. We do have the baby stroller, but Aidan usually doesn't like it. Although we haven't tried yet this summer. He might be into it. Probably the mid-morning would be the best time for that.

She'll probably start on the treadmill for a few weeks before she gets outdoors. We both need to work out and start feeling a little better physically. The best thing is that it doesn't take too long to start feeling the benefits.

I have been using my iPod shuffle and that is a great tool for running. No hard drive so there are no moving parts to breakdown. I pop it into the USB slot and load up some songs and I'm gone. Very sweet.

Aidan Video: Eating an Apple!

Spending our summers with Aidan is really an awesome thing. To see all the crazy things that he does. He is 19 months old... and loves apples. He does not like the skin to be taken off. He likes to do it himself. He gives you the pieces about 1/2 the time. The other 1/2... well, let's just say I am picking up a lot of pieces of apple off the floor. Once he gets all the skin off he goes nutz on the apple and eats just about everything. We need to buy a tool to take out the core.

This is a good one because he is doing his "pretend laugh" -- Hahahaha.
