Trip to Rice U.

Some of you may have been wondering, "Where was Mr. Duez on Tuesday?"

Yesterday we took our AVID freshmen class to Rice University. It was a great trip and a BEAUTIFUL day. Perfect weather. It is really an amazing university. The kids were blown away and exhausted when we got back to school.

This is a picture of me and my other AVID freshmen team member. She has a class of freshmen AVID as well. I am so lucky to work with such great people.

I told you it was a beautiful day. But, we are now 4 for 4 in beautiful days for field trips. We have had amazing luck with the weather over the past two years.

Baseball is Back.. tonight

Very excited about the new baseball season. Can't wait to see my Astros take on the Cubs tomorrow night. Every home game this season and most of the road games are in HD on the Astros TV network. That is going to be great. I am so glad to have DirecTV to be able to catch it all.

I am optimistic about this team. We have some of the best players in baseball:
starting pitcher Roy Oswalt
first baseman Lance Berkman
left fielder Carlos Lee, El Caballo (The Horse)
and
closer Jose Valverde (led baseball in saves the past 2 seasons)

It should be a cool season. Brand new stadiums in New York. The new MLB Network to tune into. And lots of great young players.

Poison Ivy

Norma and I have poison ivy. It is driving me mad. Norma spent an hour or two out in our backyard over the spring break. I went out for like 10 minutes. I picked up probably 2 or 3 branches. That was it. I have poison ivy on my feet, inside my arms, on my right hand, on my back in 3 spots. I'm so mad.

I used to get this when I was a kid really bad. I want it gone. So I did a little research last night before falling asleep.

Chances are that I am getting re-infected. The "disease" is really an allergic reaction. And I am getting hit with it over and over if I am touching anything that has the poison ivy 'juice' on it. So today I will be cleaning like mad.

Poison ivy does not spread by itching it. It seems like it spreads, but it just breaks out in a reaction at different times. So it seems like it is spreading.

This morning we are going to the grocery store and I am going to buy a bundle of disinfectant wipes and I am going to town on this house. I want that poisonous juice out of here! Rrrrr.

Luckily my doctor prescribed a cream that is really helping. But, it is frustrating and VERY itchy. I feel like I'm 12 years old again. I used to get poison ivy a lot. I want to go back to feeling almost 39 and super old quickly. Having a 12 year old flashback to poison ivy is not worth it.

Cutler Traded to Chicago

This is stunning...

One of the biggest trades I can ever remember in the NFL, which is not known for trades. Broncos get three draft choices (2 first rounders) and a QB (Kyle Orton, formerly the Bears starter). But, Da Bears get a Pro-Bowl QB.

This effects me because I have Cutler on my keeper fantasy team. So I am holding my breath a bit. I get nervous seeing a QB that looked like an awesome keeper for years and suddenly things are up in the air. He is moving to a very weak QB division. This just might put the Bears over the top? Only time will tell.

What do you think?

Who's to blame?

All well and good. But, I would like to see Obama get a fair shot at trying to fix this thing. Bush had his fair shot at screwing it all to hell. It only took him 8 years to send us into the worst economic downturn since the great depression.

Letterman v. O'Reilly

Goodness... Dave Letterman is the man.

part 1:

part 2:

"Well, Bill... I think we're done here. I'd like to see you in 6 months for a cleaning." Classic.

Wild Hair Day

Tomorrow at preschool they are doing a special "Wild Hair Day" to raise money for March of Dimes. Tonight we did a little preview for the morning:

Zero

This is really amazing...

Just makes me shake my head. We are in a financial crisis and they do nothing? I don't get it. What a mess.
